What's in about? In the 1913 US Golf Open, 20-year-old Francis Ouimet (Shia LaBeouf) played against his idol, 1900 US Open champion, Englishman Harry Vardon (Stephen Dillane better known as Game of Throne's Stannis Baratheon).
Did I enjoy the movie? Actually I really enjoyed it. LaBeouf is not a favorite but I was impressed with him in this movie. It looks like he can actually swing a golf club (which helps in this movie). This one is filled with lots of sports cliches....but they really work in this one. Dillane is also impressive as Vardon. While Josh Flitter as Ouimet's caddy pretty much steals the movie.
So would I recommend this movie? Absolutely....this is very well done...and the fact that…
Me and sports movies just do not jive. Sorry to Bill Paxton. I’m sure my brother loves this movie. ✌🏼 If you remember when Disney Channel had a little mini show called Movie Surfers then you’ll remember they were all over this movie when it came out. Also, here’s your veteran card if you remember Movie Surfers! 🥴💳
Watching The Greatest Game Ever Played made me want to go play some freaking golf. I would tee up for the first hole, and put on that main theme of the movie to motivate me because it was so good.
A great true story. I wish Disney still made movies like this. Shia is damn good in this and looks like he can actually play golf. I loved Flitter as the caddie. Fun film.
Why did we ever start using wooden tees? Those lumps of dirt are a better idea.
This movie once again proves to me how much I am truly BORED by golf.
Yeah, I get it.
It's a decently made movie. Well acted. Well shot.
If you LIKE golf then you probably would like this film.
I can't give it a negative rating... but the only part I was remotely interested in was the last 20 minutes.
I was also annoyed that some of the storylines that they laid out weren't resolved in the end. By not resolving them, they became extraneous to me and could have been cut. And this movie needed some judicious editing, as it was 2 hours and it seemed long.
So as far as "GOLF MOVIES" go... I will stick with "Caddyshack", "Tin Cup" and "Happy Gilmore".
This movie is great. Sometimes Disney can really find a winner in their true story/sports dramas. It's odd to say as it's a movie about golf, but the special effects don't hold up that well. Still an amazing story though and it's told in a compelling way.
The Greatest Game Ever Played, directed by Bill Paxton, is a film I grew up with. I have always loved the sport of golf. I know it isn't the most popular sport, but I love the serene and peaceful feeling I get when I am on the course. Golf is very much like movies for me. When I play golf, there is nothing else that matters.
Around the ages of 10-12, I used to play in local junior tournaments. I would watch this movie every single night before my match. It never got old and it would make me so excited for the next day. I was the underdog like Francis Ouimet and I was going to go out and…
idk why my mans who isn't really my mans picked this i had no idea what was going on i was tryna seduce him during this
As most movies involving this sport are comedies, I think this is the best non-comedy golf movie made. Based on a true story, Shia Labeouf is a poor new englander caddie who ends up getting into the US open as an amateur. Shia is the United State’s last hope against the Brits to win the open. Its refreshing to see a movie where the protagonists main competition are also likable characters. The British golfers are Stannis Baratheon and a 1920 cockney version of John Daly. Obviously this movie is better for those that like golf but still tiptoes a line that a non-golfer can enjoy it as well.
