The remix of "The Haunted Castle" was not necessary but whatever. This is the one minute soft reboot of the 1896 "The Haunted Castle." Important for horror and film history so I guess take a minute to watch it.
I got nothing else, watch here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-b51dXmtLU
When I attempt to sit down, only to miss the chair completely... I too attribute the subsequent fall to the trickster nature of spirits. It is easier to admit the existence of the afterlife, and dubious character of ghosts, then to own up to my deplorable inability to navigate space. So the next time you bear witness to my Darwin Award teasing coordination impairments, please remember: it was probably a nun.
like a really bizarre melies comedy with more spookiness. it's technically he first horror film but i laughed the whole time instead.
until the fucking skeleton popped up. had a damn heart attack. jesus christ melies.
Watched back-to-back with original Le Manoir du diable (The House of the Devil [1896]).
As if Méliès knew he was testing audience patience with over 3 minutes of The Devil’s shenanigans in the earlier version, this one isn’t much past 45 seconds! The headline news here is that it was the first time he used colour. The Devil plays less of a prominent role, but stands out in red. Again, it’s all about such devilish trickery as making chairs disappear before someone sits down (makes me look back on my childhood & wonder if parents/ teachers thought I was the new Damien!)
There’s also repeat use of the suddenly appearing skeleton, & someone as suddenly finding themselves garbed in a suit of armour. I understand this was the height of humour in the the early Silent Era. And there’s me thinking we’d attained such sophistication today!

Yet another lazy remake of a beloved classic that NOBODY asked for! When will these Hollywood bigwigs learn smh shake my head
Yeah no but this is a Georges Méliès film so there's spooky nonsense and people flipping out all over the scenery. It's fun.
THE HAUNTED CASTLE (1897)
"A King shows up at his new castle where he is haunted."
Let's get some confusing shiz out of the way: so this Georges Méliès short film is his remake of a previously titled film he did one year prior also titled The Haunted Castle (1896). That earlier version is a minute or two longer, not hand-colored at all, features some key differences in the scene it plays, and is preferably the version I enjoy more. Apparently, George Albert Smith made his own remake of both of these films, also released in 1897 and also titled The Haunted Castle. That film is considered lost or even argued that it never existed. Some films titled The Haunted…
1 minute "scary" short from 1897 whose origin is a bit hard to determine (I don't give # or star ratings to shorts).
Check this out if you are interested in old films and the history of films, but the actual video of this film of just under a minute is not going to impress many. But, heck, this was made in 1897!
