This is definitely a showcase for the brilliant Sam Elliott. He plays an old actor who has been forgotten by the film industry and is remembered by his role as "The Hero" in a western of the same name. As his told he has cancer, he tries to cope with that, with his legacy and the relationships he didn't keep up, especially with his daughter, while also creating new ones.
This is all about Elliott. He is plays this role to perfection. There is a scene where Elliott's Lee Hayden is offered a role and he reads his part with a friend, played by Nick Offerman, and he fuckin' nails it. You can see it in Offerman's face. The amount of feeling Ellliott evokes is something else. Well worth checking out.
