  “There are many kinds of monsters in this world. You never know which one gonna be yours.” 

  While watching, I could not stop thinking that The Keeping Room is the American equivalent to The Nightingale. That’s not a bad thing, especially considering how much I love The Nightingale. It should be noted though, that The Keeping Room is a film centered on the brutalization of women and that alone will definitely make it a watch not meant for everyone. I won’t be discussing the violence against women here within my review besides noting that what was shown all felt relevant to the story rather than gratuitous, and for that I am very thankful.

  Like Barber's previous film Harry Brown, The Keeping Room is a bum-numbingly slow, mumbling and mega bleak tale of violence and inhumanity where hope is few and far between.

  Brit 'bring back The OA you cowards' Marling is the lifeblood of this one, and she sort of has to be as her support isn't great (i'm looking at you, Sam '1 good performance in 10' Worthington) and her character isn't developed enough by the end to really care about her fate. No, that's not a spoiler.

  It's a beautiful film though, and sounds amazing. Long, quiet pauses in the action are interrupted by big meaty thumps of rifle fire, splinters of wood whizz past the camera without an ounce of…

  this was fairly simple, but really fantastic. the opening was fantastic, i loved the fact that they opened with a dramatic scene and then some beautiful cinematography. 3 incredible performances from the leads, i still stan by the fact that brit marling is one of the best actresses around and she always picks great project, i just wish she’d do more!
