In the Q&A, director Eugene Jarecki explained that Elvis is like a metaphor for America. There is an American dream, we have been serving money over our happiness (just like Elvis made movie deals and went to Vegas to do shows because of top-paying contracts), but just like Elvis, we are headed for a fatal overdose.
