If you give Riccardo Freda an athletic guy jumping around and occasionally carring a sword he will make us and himself very happy.
I've always been fascinated by the career of director Riccardo Freda because people like Bertrand Tavernier have praised his work to high heavens (they were friends) and paint him as a true cinephile director, but all we talk about in English film circles are his pictures with Bava (I Vampiri, Caltiki, ), The Terror of Dr. Hichcock , or his middling late career horror outings (The Iguana with the Tongue of Fire).
