Sometimes my wife just won't listen when I say "the reviews for this have been baaaaaad" and she ignores me and accuses me of being a film snob. If watching something like "Moon" instead of "Skyline" makes me a film snob, then I'm guilty as charged.

Now I had read Mark C's review of this and I could feel my heart sink as this played out like an unfunny mix of "Bend It Like Beckham" and "East Is East". A film with absolutely no heart and soul whatsoever.
I believe it took them over three years to secure financing to get this film made and released, losing several of the original lined up cast along the way (Sean Bean, Dougray Scott, Marc Warren) They really needn't have bothered going to all that effort in stumping up the cash and getting it in the can. The losses are clearly felt as whilst there are plenty of familiar (TV) faces like Keith Allen and Sean Pertwee, they are all utterly wasted. Whilst some are strictly third division players at best - Gary Mavers anyone?

Loosely (and I do mean loosely) based around the story of the magnificent seven, this Brit-comedy, based around a local amateur football (soccer, you know, the proper one) team is aiming awfully high. Too high, in fact. If you can forgive the subject matter (football) and just focus on the story, narrative and acting by the likes of Sean Pertwee, Keith Allen and even Robert Vaughn, then you are still in for a crushing disappointment. Jeremy Wooding is known more for his television work and was even responsible for some of the episodes on Peep Show (one of my favourites) but as we have witnessed so many times in the past, this does not always translate well to features.

Lily Allen’s dad Keith, Worzel Gummidge’s son Sean Pertwee and some scouser from Casualty are your main stars. 'The Magnificent Seven,’ star Robert Vaughn is your main antagonist and a host of familiar faces from a plethora of cockney gangster movies make up the rest of the cast. Several ex-footballers with nothing better to do have small cameo roles and apparently Gary Lineker is the poor sod prancing around in a tomato costume as the team's mascot.
