1898 ‘Le squelette joyeux’ Directed by Louis Lumière
A skeleton dances joyously, often collapsing into a heap of bones and quickly putting itself back together.
Since COVID began, I have been attempting a number of how to dance videos in an effort to improve my skillset. Efforts to replicate this skeletons' mad flow have met with mixed results. The skeleton makes it look easy, but I'd be lying if I said I was keeping myself together.
This film is kind of a terrific metaphor about myself because I act merry often when I'm pretty dead and empty inside. Like this skeleton. Hahaha..... *sobs*
Lumiere's Skeleton Dance (1929) before it was cool, perhaps unintentionally establishing the principles of stop-motion animation, this is ultimately a fantasy short film that overshadows the "horror" concept with its juvenile spirit.
Worth a watch.

A Year of Film History Challenge
(watching a little bit of film history month by month, decade by decade)
Just a simple, weird little puppet show featuring a dancing skeleton. The version I watched had been paired by some big silly with a bit of high energy techno beats (the kind people used to do ball or liquid dancing to) and honestly it made it about a thousand times better
Skeleton, you look good, won't you back that thing up,
You're a fine set of collagens, won't you back that thing up,
call me le realisateur when you back that thing up
Bones, who you playing with? reassemble that thing up.

Woah look at him go! I have seen some skeletons in my days and this is indeed a merry one.
Dancing skeletons is an art form that needs to return in large scale. Give me this but in 4K and with a 3 hour runtime and you got yourself the ultimate form of our entire cultural output. Now that's kino.
Also I cried when he fell apart :'( But then he reassembled and all was well once again :)
C’est un squelette, pis il danse d’une façon rigolote.
Les frères Lumière ont enfin compris ce que le public voulait. Indéniablement, leur chef d’œuvre!
Skeletor nach einem Besuch an der Bar und das ist das Resultat. 🤣🤣
