Someone tell Netflix that just because you shove every action movie cliche into a movie doesn’t mean your movie will be good.
Massive Attack, Portishead, Kate Bush?? What a killer soundtrack. I guess the movie exists too.
This is a gritty spy action movie called The Mother.
There are many other gritty spy action movies like it that you've seen.
But this one is called The Mother.

While fleeing from dangerous assailants, an assassin comes out of hiding to protect her daughter she left earlier in life.
Jennifer Lopez returns to streaming as an action star (instead of her typical rom-com romp), and from the standpoint of wanting something a bit different, it is refreshing. While the film itself is a bit of a mess, her enthusiasm for the character is far more impressive than expected. The chemistry (or lack there of) between she and her daughter is easily the best part of the film, and it gets interesting around the point when she is tasked with protecting her. Prior to the the third act, there are…
the mother is perfectly fine for what it is — a shitty, somber netflix thriller in the same vein as extraction? taken for the codependent mothers and daughters out there? you decide — but jennifer lopez is, indeed, mothering the whole way through. she really delivers as a yassified jason bourne: every outfit looks SO divine on her (the arctic parka with the cinched in waist?? that alone made me want to do cardio until i pass out) and even the shittiest, clunkiest lines sound like gold coming out of her mouth. mama’s a movie star, and i’m glad she finally got the chance to follow charlize and angie into this aspect of it — even if it means carrying this script on her perfectly toned shoulders!! i do wish she’d been able to do a bit more combat-wise, but i’ll just wait for the sequel since there’s so clearly going to be one
There is a 12-year time jump in this movie but Jennifer Lopez doesn't age a single day and I think that might be the most realistic scene in all of The Mother.
The kid in this movie is one of the most insufferable people in cinematic history. She doesn't deserve J Lo.
Off the top of my head, I can think of 2,765 movies that would be better to watch this Mother's Day with your mom.
0.4/10 for 1/2 star.
JLO as MUTHA, MOTHERING!!
Loved it. Surprisingly really good mix of drama and action, Jenny From Da Block is always so watchable and familiar, it’s kind of hard not to like movies with MUTHA!! The icy second half was awesome, even if it did stretch about 20 minutes too long.
