Another fun Universal monster flick!
Karloff slays this. Without him, the plot of the cursed Egyptian artifacts is mildly interesting, but his screen-presence as the titular mummy is extremely impressive, especially given how early on it is in his career as a star. Zita Johann plays her part as the vaguely-foreign archaeologist quite well! They have genuine chemistry, that come through on screen.
The pacing felt a bit off, which happens from time to time with these pre-code talkies, especially when there is no score, and they spent a little too long on the Egyptian backstory, but the production design, especially the sets, were always magnificent.
. . .
