“I’ve got nine more” is one of THE funniest lines. As a diehard Airplane! fan I can’t believe it took this long to watch this.
"Just think...the next time I shoot someone, I could be arrested."
Gets funnier every time I see it.
I'd known her for years. We used to go to all the police functions together. Ah, how I loved her. But she had her music. At least, I think she had her music. She'd hang out with the Chicago Male Chorus and Symphony. I don't recall her playing an instrument, or being able to carry a tune. Yet she was on the road 300 days of the year. In fact, I bought her a harp for Christmas. She asked me what it was...
"Goodyear?" "No, the worst."
Unless someone out there wants to go to bat for Austin Powers, this is the last truly great, truly silly mainstream film comedy, with a deadpan heart and a slapstick soul. But on top of all that, there's an almost cathartic anti-authoritarian edge here, intentional or not, showing the adventures of an entitled idiot who causes havoc and disaster wherever he goes, only to be celebrated and commemorated for it because he's a cop. Thank God it's only a movie.
Isolation comfort movie.
"Hey, it's Enrico Pallazzo!" might make me laugh more than any other line in cinema. Don't know why.
strange that the crown forgot such an important part of the queens history, when she was almost assassinated by hypnotism at a baseball game
Unironically deserves a Criterion release. And they might as well do the whole trilogy while they’re at it.
Airplane! is one of my favorite comedies of all time, so it was no surprise that I ended up loving The Naked Gun as much as I did. It has all the same hilariously bad Dad-joke puns ("Goodyear?" / "No, the worst.") and masochistic slapstick (a man gets shot and then stumbles around incurring a series of much more minor injuries) that made me fall in love with Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker's masterpiece. There's an extended joke about Drebin going to the bathroom with his mic still on that had me rolling my eyes, but if anything this is just a testament to the way Zucker is willing to throw everything at the wall to see what sticks (there's so much background detail…
4 stars alone for the smile Drebin gets when he realizes he can be a star umpire.
"I promise you; whatever scum did this, not one man on this force will rest one minute until he's behind bars. Now, let's grab a bite to eat." - Frank
My father sent me a text at 2AM which read:
"Naked Gun on channel 529!!! 😂"
I needed a good laugh tonight, thanks Dad!
