"Why don't we invite him in?"
"No animals in the house, sweetheart."
Goes right into a certain pile of movies (The Big Lebowski, Inherent Vice, The Long Goodbye) which utilize comedic trappings to explore emptiness, loss, and the strangling grip of capitalism. The tightest, snappiest, most deceptively beautiful screenplay in years.
when holly says “YOU WANT IT? GO GET IT!” and throws the film out the window... STREET SMARTS!! whew john mulaney’s impact
- "dad, there are whores here and stuff"
"don't say and stuff. just say dad there are whores here"
- "you took the lord's name in vain"
"no i didn't, janet. i found it very useful actually"
- "how much would you charge to beat up my friend janet?"
- "you guys wanna see my dick?"
"nobody wants to see your dick dude"
- "you know who else was just following orders? hitler"
why did this movie flop
who knew me and ryan gooseling had a screech in common... when i stub my toe on the bathroom door
"this is not you. you're not a murderer."
"she killed three people."
"i know, but i'm saying deep down."
quentin tarantino saw this movie and said wow that's my aesthetic that's what i want to achieve and decided in that very moment as the screen went black and the credits rolled to pay homage to this classic and have his 9th and penultimate film aka once upon a time in hollywood also set in LA around the 1970s, following a duo made up of two big hollywood male stars and (most importantly!!!) featuring a barefooted margaret qualley...... it's just facts!!!! i see u tarantino i see u

Boogie Nights meets The Big Lebowski with some Inherent Vice mixed in there.
The Nice Guys is hands down one of the best buddy cop comedies in recent times. In my opinion buddy cop comedies is one of the hardest types of films to pull off. There have been so many failures out there. The Nice Guys is probably the best since Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
This film is absolutely bonkers. There's consistent laughs through out. There is some really solid and well done action. Really great chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. Solid banter between the two of them throughout. The little girl who was Gosling's daughter in the movie was fantastic. Typically a child actor in this…
No one screams quite like Ryan Gosling and delightfully he does it a lot in this film. I’m not clamouring for a Nice Guys sequel but definitely want to see Shane Black and Gosling collab again in the future. But is this better than Kiss Kiss Bang Bang... urgh guess I’ll just have to watch it again to find out*.
*sarcasm
ahmed how tf did u fall asleep while we were watching this, there were even multiple Hitler jokes
One of the best Buddy Cop films I’ve seen.
Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe were great and their banter was hilarious. They played off each other very well. I’d love to see them together again in the future.
The story seemed like it dragged a certain scenes, but most scenes were completely necessary. So I accept it as what it is.
All around a fun, entertaining flick.
It was as if The Other Guys had a more mature tone and was set in the colorful world of the 70s. Ryan Goslings’ personality is just falling off things throughout the movie. Russell Crow is just a grumpy old white guy - a tired trope. The two men pictured on the movies title screen need to make room for actress who played Ryan Goslings’ daughter. She is the main hero of the movie.
