another laureate for a berlin bear in '07, another completely vanished film. melancholic identity search in a grayish, nebulous sleeping compartment. a woman on the way out of the cinema, shaking her head: "nowadays movies can't tell stories anymore. they lost the ability to tell stories." harsh judgment, but in this case I can feel her.
This Argentinian production is about a lawyer around 45. This man is being accompanied almost with a magnifying glas. He is an attractive man.
For a very long time I didn´t know what this is all about. "El Otro" appears to just show the everyday life of this man. With very few words.
The picture language is aesthetic. I liked it a lot.
But you must have a heart for slow movies to like this one.
There is a plot developing, but if you don´t pay good attention you might even miss it.
In the end I would say this is a man in a midlife or identity crisis who searches for a solution.
