Bond, jo també em dic James Bond, El otro Bond, O Outro Bond, קוראים לי ג'יימס בונד, My name is Bond
Wonderful documentary about people ACTUALLY named ‘James Bond’ and the funny, fascinating and even surprisingly moving stories associated with having such a famous name.
From his Goldeneye compound, Ian Fleming read a book about the avifauna of the West Indies. An avid birdwatcher, Birds of the West Indies by the ornithologist James Bond, was a treasured field guide for his time in his Jamaican villa, nestled in a northern cove of an island overlooking a beach. Writing his own prized series of novels, Ian Fleming was in search for a name, a good name. Famously, he borrowed the name of the bird writer.
Bond, James Bond. Fleming wanted a flat name that hid in plain sight. The events and adventures of James Bond, the character, must be magnificent but the name must resemble the common man. Anonymity is important; James Bond must pass as…
After we finished Barry Lyndon at our last movie night, my friends and I desired to watch something shorter. I convinced them to watch The Other Fellow with me in the hopes that my friends will become James Bond fans.
Again, this is an excellent documentary. My friends and I discussed many of the topics touched upon in the doc after it was over.
If you like James Bond, watch this.
If you don’t like James Bond, watch this.
This documentary about people named James Bond turned out to have a lot more going on than I predicted.
Extremely happy to not only have seen the world premiere of this fantastic documentary tonight at the Civic in Auckland, but I’m also the first to post a review of it here on Letterboxd.
THE OTHER FELLOW charts men around the globe who all carry the name James Bond. It is at times both hilarious and tragic, with a number of emotional hooks that underline the film.
Superbly made - particularly the editing (and sound editing) - it’s a film that explores the curse, or perhaps the benefit, of having such a name 60 years after Ian Fleming made it famous. The archival footage of Fleming talking about how he arrived at the name - an interview very familiar to James…
I first saw this documentary about a month ago. I found myself thinking about the film and the stories it contained for longer than I thought I would even though I rated the doc positively (3.5 stars) when I first saw it.
So, I bought myself a physical copy (and let me tell you, it was not easy to find one) and I rewatched it. I’ve become somewhat of a 007 fan this year, and this is a great documentary to supplement the Bond fandom. I hope more Bond fans and more people in general see this documentary.
Interview with Matthew Bauer
What an interesting premise for a documentary. I was honestly really into this and seeing the different lives led by a bunch of people named James Bond. It’s wild to hear all the stories from all these people. On top of being an interesting topic, it’s also a very well made and paced documentary. I was rarely bored throughout and the film had my full attention. If there’s any real criticism I have, it would be that there’s times where certain things are reused or is redundant throughout. However, that’s a minor gripe, as I found the film fully engaging and wholly unique. I think longtime 007 fans will find this to be a fun watch.
What's in a name? Turns out, if that name is James Bond - a lot. Sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse, this cinematic and lively documentary tells the story of several men (and a kid!) across the globe who share a name with the world's most famous spy, how their identities have been defined by it and how they've managed the hurdles of being associated with such a specifically defined fictional character (and the negative stereotypes attached). Some of these stories are incredibly fascinating, one specifically that almost plays out like an individual true crime thriller and features a brilliant twist on the use of the iconic name. The brisk pace and glossy presentation of Bauer's storytelling style, combined with…
Fascinating and tragic. A thoughtful look at the advantages and pitfalls of men being lumbered with, or adopting, a remarkable identity.
Thoroughly enjoyable sneak peek into the lives of some otherwise quite ordinary James Bond’s.
Turned out to be so much more fascinating than I had expected. Exploring the pros and cons of being named James Bond from a wide variety of J.B.s.
