I want to say return to sender but that's not true or fair. We have here two solid actors with Gene Hackman (Gallagher) and Tommy Lee Jones (Boyette) and a great backing cast. I felt like I was left out info but I loved spending time reading and inferring glances and dry responses from these two but I did find the well running a little dry and felt left in the cold. I know a rewatch would help but I might just be digging in an empty mine. Still it looks good and hits a lot of those spy thriller narrative beats I just can't totally sign off on it.
"The Package" is a solid conspiracy thriller with plenty of grime and local Chicago color, courtesy of director Andrew Davis. Have any directors been as clearly in love with Chicago as Andrew Davis? (His "The Fugitive" likewise showcased the city in loving detail.) He shoots the city with obvious affection, and makes it look much more appealing than the grid-locked hellhole that I always find it to be whenever I visit (though, in this movie, they do mention how traffic is going to be a nightmare).
Aside from capturing the local flavor of Chicago, "The Package" is a consistently tense experience. The movie establishes an atmosphere of distrust and earned paranoia, and tightens the screws every step of the way…

I'm always down for a political thriller that manages to avoid being too convoluted, and The Package (currently free via Amazon Prime) accomplishes that type of plot effectively and efficiently. It's easy to watch The Package, directed by Andrew Davis and set in Chicago with Tommy Lee Jones as the lead support character, and think to yourself, "This is just Davis scouting for The Fugitive." Easy and true.

After decorating the Christmas tree while watching Die Harder, HBO decided this was a good movie to play next. I agree with the algorithm because this is also a Christmas based action movie! And a damn good one too.
This is an exciting, well cast conspiracy action thriller with a lot of moving parts and plenty of excitement. I could have used more Hackman and Jones scenes because they bounce off each other so well. Fortunately there's a decent amount of time with Hackman and Dennis Franz as buddy cops which makes for a good time.
Underrated and largely forgotten cold war thriller is worth seeing for the great cast which includes Gene Hackman and Tommy Lee Jones and for the skillful direction of Andrew Davis who is adept at crafting suspenseful films packed with plenty of nifty twists and turns. Intelligently plotted, lots of action and an exciting and satisfying climax, what more could you ask for?
Political thriller set during the last days of the Cold War with a shadowy organization trying to do all the assassination stuff that shadowy organizations do. A movie to watch solely for the actors. We get a lot of Gene Hackman piecing together the mystery of who is trying to do what when, but the motives of the bad guys are kept maybe too much in the shadows. As much as a leading Hackman is welcomed, we definitely could've used more Tommy Lee Jones since he's the key to making this whole thing work. Still yet, its a solid thriller from '89 that feels like a lot of what the oncoming decade would offer. And it has Dennis Franz, so that is always a big plus.

When I'd watched Under Siege and Above the Law, I'd assumed that their politics had come primarily from Steven Seagal. I'd assumed Seagal and director Andrew Davis had been hanging around on set and Seagal had been hinting to Davis that he'd totally, for real, involved in some secret black ops type stuff that he wasn't allowed to talk about but that it was totally a bad thing that these secret black ops guys were allowed to do bad stuff, man.
