A fascinating, if blurry, window into North Korea.
Unsurprisingly, it is very limited by its format- the North Koreans are very restrictive, but it does seem to offer some insight into their culture and mindset, which is certainly interesting information.
However, we obviously never get to peek into that murky underbelly whose existence seems undeniable (and perhaps never will). That underbelly seems to be a big part of the fascination from other cultures and isn't shocking but this doesn't provide much in the way of answers.
It does manage to provide some engagement by juxtaposing the very different perspectives and sources of information (as well as offering some engagement through the aforementioned cultural insight), though whether it maintains this engagement throughout is up for debate.
It does also provide a somber final note for the documentary. Certainly rather fascinating if you have a big interest in North Korea.
P.S So so tired writing this. Ooof.
