Atomic bombs, why do they even exist? That is oftentimes a personal question I ask myself. They are so dangerous, that I don't even want to think too much about them. But this series is about this subject. The story is focusing on Werner Heisenberg, a theoretical physicist. Now, I know that many people are familiar with the name ''Heisenberg''. The reason why I know it is because it's the alter ego name of ''Walter White'' from ''Breaking Bad''. This was also directly a reason why I became interested in the story. The series is based on a true story and it takes place during the second world war. Werner Heisenberg gets the task to build an atomic weapon for…
After 90 minutes (of 270) I´m giving up. Despite an interesting topic, great locations and beautiful landscapes with lots of snow I give up.
It´s just too damn boring for me.
The 2015 Norwegian/Danish/British mini-series The Saboteurs (originally titled The Heavy Water War) is a more historically accurate depiction of the real-life WWII story of the Allies sabotage of the heavy water nuclear weapon project in Nazi occupied Norway that went on to become the basis of the less faithful 1965 action adventure The Heroes of Telemark.
Where the writers (including Borgen creator Adam Price) score with this production above this earlier tale is in the more in depth recreation of Operation Grouse, the arduous 15 day ski-trek across snow towards Møsvatn and the devastating failure of the British commandos, and the less than palatable accurate depiction of the attack on the civilian passenger ferry that was transporting heavy water.

Kampen om tungtvannet (2015) is a well-made Norwegian miniseries about the heroics in stopping Hitler's atomic bomb during World War II. Unfortunately it doesn't reach the level of excitement of others films about this particular event as done in Kampen om tungtvannet (1948) and the Hollywood remake The Heroes of Telemark (1965). Still a respectable job trying to broaden the story to more then just the mission.
Una serie de acción, ambientada en la segunda guerra mundial. Desde inglaterra deciden boicotear a los alemanes con el abastecimiento de agua pesada que se produce en Noruega y sirve de insumo entre otros usos para la producción de la bomba atomica.
6/10 Great cinematography to show accomplished/real skiing scenes full of action and drama. That was the highlight of this series for me.
Unfortunately, the characters of the commandos doing this (and most other characters, too) are superficially developed even with 4 hours of screen time.
Overall there are many aspects of this 6 part series (of about 4 hours). But it is like the pieces of this puzzle are forced into place and many characters are given dialogue to humanize them so that we the viewer can find sympathy in them. I would have preferred not to have been force fed in this way.
Maibritt Saerens plays the wife of the director of the Hydro factory. (Interestingly, both characters are…
It is close to the definitive version of the sabotage in Rjukan of Norsk Hydro's heavy water factory that supplied Hitler with means to create a nuclear bomb. It is an excellent production with high quality footage of nature, costumes and acting put in one package. It also don't turn it's head in addressing the more dirty side of war and that civilians always are the losing side of it while rich people always seem to turn with their feet firmly placed on the surviving side. Beautiful Anna Friel is also included in the cast together with the Norwegians but she adds little less than some tear-eyed eyes and looking good in a uniform and was mainly here to sell the show to English speaking countries. I also wish there had been a tiny bit more details at the epilogue but that is a little nitpicking from my side.
Gives you a good understanding of what happened during the war for heavy water. The main story about the soldiers blowing up the factory is really exciting and thrilling. Every thing else is kind of mediocre and boring, but i would recommend it if you are in any way more interested to find out more about the fight for heavy water.
Excellent WWII drama about attempts by the Allies to destroy or disable a heavy water plant in Norway. This was an interesting series to watch after the thoroughly enjoyable "Manhattan". (In fact it would be good to watch both series at the same time.)
