I loved this so much. I really had no problems with it up until the end, it felt a little drawn out.
*SPOILER*
I wish that the film would've focused on Rana. The whole climax of the story was about her but I feel like there wasn't enough time given to her character.
another wrenching, surgically nuanced study of empathy from Farhadi, but centering a film on a production of Death of a Salesman only solidifies my suspicions that Farhadi has gotten himself wrapped up in the wrong medium. he's a hell of a writer, but i don't think film is the best vehicle for the stories he wants to tell (actually, that's not true… i don't think film is the best vehicle for the *way* he wants to tell them).
Me minding my own business.
Asghar Farhadi: "You're gonna feel conflicted and you're gonna like it!
Honestly, this should win the Palme.
It probably won't (I hope I'm wrong),
but it damn well should.
A densely packed intense human drama that utilizes an hauntingly authentic conflict to explore the complexities of human behavioral traits and moral implications in an immaculately nuanced manner. The rich characters, remarkable performances and suspenseful structure keeps it engaging all through. The third act is where the psychological tension peaks and hits you emotionally hard, leaving you in moral dilemma, further opening up on your viewpoint perspectives. The strong social-cultural commentary and its parallel play act makes the drama more impactful. A highly recommended watch.
“i behaved badly”
captivating with a stellar ending. i’m glad i got to catch this in the theater
A cinematic poem and a masterpiece in unfolding the twists of human psychology. Farhadi is a filmmaker who always seems to know exactly how much to reveal to an audience without being either too opaque or too obnoxious. It was a really stunning movie with a very powerful plot.. Highly recommended!!
Possibly, One of The Best Films of this Decade. A lot of people have compared it with A separation but in my opinion, this is a little better because of psychological depths it plunges into.
Director Asghar Farhadi can be very Proud of what he has achieved here. Make no mistake, this is Bergman and Fellini territory.
Farhadi makes you feel bad about the victim and the villain in the same scene, in the same frame. Its unreal, as if Farhadi is asking you "If you were the victim, What would you do " ?
Shahab Hosseini's acting is phenomenal and so authentic, I have not seen many actors giving such masterclass of their craft. Its a real shame that The Salesman wasn't released in India because more people should watch this.
This is haunting and gripping at the same time. It will make you think, Only Great artists can affect you in that way.
10/10.
From the writer-director of Fireworks Wednesday, About Elly & A Separation, The Salesman (also known as Forushande) serves as yet another nuanced portrait of domestic life that challenges the viewers' morality & conscience by contemplating on numerous social issues in an incredibly authentic & intricately human manner and is structured & paced in a way that grips its audience like a tense thriller.

Reason for pick – director Asghar Farhadi – A Separation
Asghar Farhadi stays with his strength, rendering a story of a couple in crisis, and employing actors he trusts with his vision, the brilliant Shahab Hosseini and Taraneh Alidoosti.
In all of his films he tempers his characters with reasonability, tenderness, and caring, and responsibility; that’s how I think the audience is so easily accepting of them, it’s also why these films are such a great ambassadors to the west .. we get to see that cosmopolitan Iranians are not really that different culturally and in their acts and wants and fears in daily life.
I don’t really want to reveal the key event that…
