Look Ben Stiller in his electric blue eyes and tell him that this film doesn't have:
- some damn nice cinematography
- some damn nice music
- a damn nice story with a god damn nice ending
- a damn great and not cringe way to use a dating website in a film thanks to Todd
- great end credit songs (which I always take note of)
- a damn great cast
- ICELAND IS SO BEAUTOFUL FUCK ENGLAND
- I'VE GONE OFF TOPIC BUT THE SKATEBOARD SCENE
- SNOW LEOPARDS
"Beautiful things don't ask for attention."
Life this past week has been pretty tough. Watching my favorite movie helped a lot. This will always profoundly affect me in a personal and intimate way. The music. The perfect characterization and performances. The storytelling through imagery. The awkward humor. It's the kind of cheesy, dorky, wonderful movie I would dream to make. I'm also traveling Europe for 10 weeks in the spring, so it feels like this was written for me right now
Every time I watch this movie, I want to get out and do something. It's such an uplifting movie.
I understand this hitting for a lot of people because yeah, it’s good. Something about it just never stuck with me, though. Can’t tell if it’s the awkward dialogue, the SpyKids-esque CGI, or a few of the uncomfortable performances, but something just made me not love it as much I was supposed to. BUT the cinematography was surprisingly extremely good.
Wish I saw this in theaters 6 years ago. Of course there are things that don't work in this film but I feel Stiller deserves props for a wildly ambitious film that looks AMAZING! The helicopter/boat sequence is top notch action directing. After watching that sequence, I feel that Stiller could easily direct big studio action. Most of it seems practical to me. Of course the digital shark took me out. But overall, really impressed.
Stuart Dryburgh shot this on 35mm and had lots of toys to play with:
Arricam LT, Hawk V-Lite, V-Lite 1.3x, V-Plus 1.3x, Cooke S4 and Angenieux Optimo Lenses
Arricam ST, Hawk V-Lite, V-Lite 1.3x, V-Plus 1.3x, Cooke S4, Century S2000 and Angenieux Optimo Lenses
Arriflex…
A true feel good movie with a great soundtrack.
I can safely say that I enjoyed every second of it.
