I wish I knew how to link pictures and stuff, because the poster on the IMDB page for The Shaggy Dog is fucking terrifying. It's a dog with Tim Allen's eyes but it looks really frightening. Look it up, I implore you.
The film sucks.
I don't know what's worst:
The nightmarish poster or Downey Jr. acting like a dog.
director: ok guys i got this great idea for a movie! it's about a man who gets bit by a dog which then causes him to TURN INTO a dog! huh? huh?
employee: gary you've done it again. here are my keys. go fuck my wife
I was bored, and I just pick a random flick. Not one of my best choices.
The selection of actors picked to be in this movie are very talented in other projects, but in "The Shaggy Dog", they feel like they're more sleepwalking than having any fun. Robert Downey Jr. is easily the best aspect of the movie, as he is having fun, and I enjoy his performance. That's doesn't change that this film's effects range from confusing, pointless, and even terrifying. The film itself is by the numbers, with characters that have been overdone to death. "The Shaggy Dog" at the end of the day, is both unfunny, and at times, mean spirited.
There's a scene with human Tim Allen running on all 4s chasing after a cat while the song "Who Let the Dog's Out?" plays. Pretty much sums up this movie...very ruff.
This is my fourth time logging The Shaggy Dog starring Timothy Allen.

Pretty much every joke in this movie is hacky. Did you know that dogs sniff each other's butts and like to pee on fire hydrants? Classic stuff, you love to see it. Very disappointed that there wasn't more body horror in this, or at least a full on Wolfman style transformation scene. Though the movie does get bonus points for having not one but TWO credits songs about the premise of the movie. Also, a young Rhea Seehorn is in this and the cast is weirdly kind of stacked overall.
My friend recently did a video essay on all of these Shaggy Dog flicks. Convinced me to revisit this movie and some of the older ones on Disney+/YouTube. This one is just really bad, the older ones are silly but charming. Seeing Tim Allen act even more disgusting than usual by lapping up cereal and water and acting all feral is just so awkward. The edgy lore they give the dog is also just really embarrassing as if they were too insecure about the concept of the movie and wanted to work overtime to justify a person turning into a dog. Where is Wilby Daniels?
This movie was forged by humanity’s collective mistakes... none of this is real it’s all just a hallucination
Little dogs in the bloodstream little dogs in the bloodstream little dogs in the bloodstream
I saw this as a kid and I enjoyed it then but remember being terrified💀. I wouldn't watch this again and I know I wouldn't like it.
i forgot this movie existed and i’m honestly not sure if i’m glad or disappointed i remembered it
This movie is dog in a buisness suit, with time Allen speaking through the dog, now there is some sort of family message mixed in there. Though it probably could have done a better job at delivering that family message.
