Romantic psychological crime drama/fantasy horror.
No joke. I think that's an accurate description of the genre.
This is pretty low rated on letterbox, and the only reason I can fathom is that it's on Shudder - a horror streaming service - and people are going in with wildly wrong expectations. This, alongside Blackshear's debut They Look Like People, is an excellent example of thoughtful and effective, low budget filmmaking.
If I'm to nitpick then I'd say it can skirt a little close to being on-the-nose and the acting isn't quite as consistently competent as in They Look Like People. But, IMO, it more than makes up for this.
