Essentially reimagining “Starman” as a tepid YA weepie, “The Space Between Us” adds the one thing that’s been missing from melodramatic teen dramas like “The Fault in Our Stars” and “If I Stay”: Mars. Of course! The Red Planet. What took them so long? It’s such a perfectly natural setting for a genre that has wasted millions upon millions of dollars searching for signs of life. Alas, there are none to be found in this otherwise guileless and good-natured sci-fi love story.
Trapping a fine cast in an endless parade of eye-rolling schmaltz, The Space Between Us unfortunately answers the question as to what would happen if Nicholas Sparks took on science fiction. The only space I need is 500 miles of space away from this movie.
manic pixie dream space baby!!
i could write 2,000 words tearing apart plot holes and dubious morals and occasionally vomitrocious dialogue. but i refuse to battle my mind's sense of what makes a good movie with my soul's desire to enjoy a pretty dreamy thing with a good score no matter how lame it is, because in the case of corny-ass cliche teens my trash soul is always going to win. this movie wants to be interesting so bad, in a nutshell: in the first half the kid is obsessed with watching wings of desire, but then in the second half he almost dies because his heart is literally too big for earth. it shares a lot of beautiful dumbass vibes with age of adaline. i liked that movie too. don't drag me
Imagine be blessed with being the first person born on Mars and fall into a job as a NASA scientist, then being such a privileged shit head you throw it all away for some girl you never met. Wild.
Visueel supermooi, verhaal niet goed/cheesy/voorspelbaar/ongeloofwaardige wetenschap.
What's your favourite thing about Earth?
This started off well, kinda lost it's way in the middle but overall a good watch.
The emotional beats are all written very large but this will hit all the right notes for the target audience. Sweet, smartly made and easy to digest.
The idea is so unique, but the problem is not here.
There are some points I wanna declare:
*The movie focused on Romance MUCH more than its original subject the SCI_FI.
* I didn't get the boy is he a genius or an idiot?
He hacked their system on mars, but on earth he was following the girl without saying or doing anything useful.
*Dialogues were weak .You can't even come out with single good quote.
*Why stealing cars looked so easy and whenever they need a car they find someone stupid who can not notice that his huge car is being stolen in front of his eyes!
*Everything was expected, nothing shocked me.
* They worked hard on scientific facts which is a thing I appreciate ( the gravity case on earth and mars, how the body of the newborn will be on mars, blood pumping through heart issue , etc)
Enjoyable to watch. Overall not a good film but Asa Butterfield and Gary Oldman are so great that I have to give it at least 3 stars. Also the soundtrack gave me chills.
I spent most of it waiting for the dramatic moment but it never came
“and Gary Oldman was in it”
