the color palette they used to grade this is 100% just a way to make paul newman’s eyes look bluer and the blood on robert redford’s mouth look redder, and you know what? i agree.
"Your boss is quite a card player, Mr Kelly; how does he do it?"
"He cheats."

THE BEST CON ARTIST MOVIE EVER MADE, WITH BOTH, NEWMAN AND REDFORD ON FIRE
And there it is. The Allrounder. The movie that captures and defines every single thing that provides escapism and entertainment.
When I was a kid and was learning to play the piano, one of the first things I could play by heart was Joplin's 'The Entertainer'. Hearing those notes over those fantastic opening credits of The Sting brought the type of smile to my face only nostalgia can provide. And it remained there for the entire running time.
The Sting oozes classy filmmaking. Harkening back to a time that appeals to a romantic sentiment of simplicity and hardship, it gives life to America in the Great Depression with appealing light hearted charm. The set designs are simply astounding. They perhaps…
It has:
- Robert Redford changing his hairstyle
- Robert Redford smiling
- Robert Redford running
- Robert Redford drinking
- Robert Redford playing games
- Robert Redford sitting
- Robert Redford being hot
This movie was so so so good. And I know it’ll get better with rewatches. It’s quick and really well paced, and the attention to detail is insanely perfect. The colors, the costumes, the sets, the transitions with the editing and the score are incredible. Robert Redford and Paul Newman are a terrific and likable duo, and the story and plans they make are extremely entertaining and fun to watch. The way it unravels is very engaging and interesting, I never felt bored. I was still a little confused on a few minor storylines, but overall it made sense. This will change with rewatches. It’s so great, and one of the best crime movies ever.
Pristine narrative and formal economy, so classical it might as well have been actually filmed in 1936.
paul newman with blood on his shirt: here’s looking at you, kid *winks*
robert redford with blood leaking out the sides of his mouth: *smiles*
me: *sobs violently*
I watched this yesterday because I saw the hashtag "trans women are con men" promoted on Twitter and couldn't stop the intrusive thought of an all transwoman remake of The Sting with a MIDI-electronic music remix of 'The Entertainer.'
Great movie too.
this may be one of the most overused phrases in the book, but I believe it's more than fitting to say that they truly don't make films like this anymore
Winner of 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director & Best Original Screenplay, The Sting is a skilfully crafted, expertly narrated & fabulously performed cinema about con artists that exquisitely blends elements of many different genres into one & oozes enough charm throughout its runtime to qualify as one of the finest films of its time.
Set during the Great Depression, The Sting tells the story of two professional grifters; the young Hooker & the much experienced Henry, who along with other accomplices plan a plot to con the mob boss responsible for the murder of their mutual friend, in order to get even with him. The plot is divided into various segments, each focusing on a particular stage of their plan.
Brilliantly…
