The Tax Collector is one of those films that seems like a *shrug* "it is what it is" kind of movie, then suddenly BAM! you realise it's really shit. The signs are there from the start though, because the substandard crime dramatics, dripping in edgelord machismo, really should be obvious from the opening credits. Especially when it unironically has these words appear onscreen:
"Love
Honor
Loyalty
Family"
Imagine *literally* spelling out your themes in the opening titles and not even bothering to make them sound original. Could there be anything more generic than a crime film about loyalty and family?
