Starring Patsy Kensit (LETHAL WEAPON 2), Marianne Faithful and in a smaller role Julian Sands (WARLOCK), this version of the classic story tries something different, leaning into the romanticism and taking the repressed sex undertones out in the open with not only nudity, flashes of rare male frontal nudity. The ghosts and creepy kid factor is done well enough but doesn't ever feel threatening so much.
I did appreciate the slight twist on the ending as opposed to the other films {Spoilers ahead} .... the film being narrated by Marianne Faithfull's character, is revealed at the very end to be the little girl Flora, all grown up, with the memory that the governess Jenny killed her brother. This puts the film in a slightly different light in Flora's perspective as she's not sure there were really ghosts at all.
#5 in my Turn of the Screw adaptation marathon.
