  Ugh. What happened here? Why does it feel like there’s 17429 characters jammed into this motherfucker?! How did something with so much promise end up so gratuitously convoluted, unfocused, and ultimately disappointing?

  Given how much I loved pretty much everything about the original, watching this sequel feels like a body snatcher hijacked this project from writer-director Park Hoon-jung. I was convinced that someone else wrote-directed this until seeing the credits.

  The Witch part 2 is unfocused and lumpier than its predecessor. This one follows a new protagonist 'cynthia' and her journey.

  This one doesn't feel like a sequel, this functions more like a superhero origin/ world building movie (there's also a post credit, so yeah).
  This movie suffocates the audience with overabundance of information through a series of jump cuts right from the starting moment. After that dumping of exposition you will think it will be essential to some plot point later but that doesn't happen either.
  Also somehow everyone in this movie knows each other in one way or another.

  Like in the first one, I love how despite there's a lot of characters having superpowers, you can still know how special the girl is. I love how she barely lifts a finger but already making a big impact while having an innocent/scary face (like Ja-yoon!). I just don't like how the editing and the effects are so over the top.

  The first part Subversion, did actually did a decent job telling a complete story and elevated it with superb action, a charismatic cast, and plenty of striking visuals. However, the world it created never quite seemed like it needed a sequel. By setting one up, it allowed The Witch: Part 2. The Other One to carry with it the intrigue of wondering where things will go and how everything will tie together. Unsurprisingly, The Other One complicates its initial premise by following along with a new character and surrounding them with more unfamiliar faces.

  The Witch: Part 2 becomes the spider web of narrative threads that it is because it jumps around a lot at the beginning of the film…

  Finding Mukbang

  Follows the path of another female super-powered escapee, who ends up with a pair of siblings that have no idea what she's capable of.

  This sequel's strength lies with the Girl and the siblings, but wavers when they switch to all the other characters and their never-ending (run-time padding) stories. As sparse as the explosive action was, it was truly satisfying to see every smug, over-confident bad guy getting to smell their own farts after their asses were handed to them.

  I personally enjoyed all of the Girl's fish out of water scenes, as she experiences the joys of the outside world for the first time. Would've appreciated more focus on those moments, rather than the endless villain pissing contests.

  And yes, it does eventually tie in with the first film for anyone wondering what the heck is going on. Also stick around for the end credits sequence (about 3mins worth?).

  This was bad. I’m upset and disappointed in myself that I not only wasted 2+ hours watching this, but I also paid a decent amount for the blu-ray. Subversion didn’t wow me and wasn’t great. But I still thought it was worth the watch. The Other One is a mess in so many areas. The story is almost non-existent and whatever is there is all over the place. Like, what in the actual fuck was going on? It’s so incoherent. And who are these characters? I’m all for introducing new people into the mix, but we get no backstory for most of them. And the backstory that we do get isn’t enough to make me care about what’s going on at…

  This story is MASSIVE, as a mere mortal I've not grasped it all yet.

  Love, and kindness finds our little girls heart. The fights, and superpowers are fantastic.

  I hope for many many more stories.

  Overall a good one.
  But I would say, it's like an episode of a CW shows with a better budget because except for the 1st and last 15 minutes, the whole film was purposeless.

  I'm a big big fan of the first, but this is something of a step down unfortunately. The mythology remains a fun, complex riff on X-MEN style shenanigans, and we once again get some wonderfully cruel and capable young women, but the action is so CG-centric that it never impresses or wows with its choreography and/or execution.

  Still, bring on PART 3!
