Esto No Es Berlin has to be one of the most slept-on films I've come across this year. It seems to have completely fallen under the radar for most on here and that's a genuine shame. A well-drawn snapshot of the burgeoning punk scene in 1980s Mexico, the film excels at capturing the beating heart of a revolution through its wonderful, richly-realized characters.
Xabiani Ponce de León gives a breakthrough and nuanced performance as one such character--restlessly out-of-place protagonist, Carlos. His portrayal, coupled with those of the rest of this fine cast, are the picture of authenticity.
