this certainly is a series of still images that creates the illusion of movement
"My dream is this: to make a film about women with a high sense of morality who want to, out of happiness, destroy everything." - Serge Bozon
Maybe the most sublimely strange of Huppert’s performances, so many odd bodily tics and verbal patterns (not to mention her especially distinctive way of eating breakfast on the go [not to mention that she spends almost half the film sticking her tongue out to catch dripping blood from an open wound on her forehead]). “Protocols are my department. It’s a passion of mine.” The failures of France’s multicultural present microcosmically reduced to a botched murder case and a small suburb simmering with mistrust and resentment; the two cops sent to clear everything up wrapped up in their own psychosexual complications. “One likes to hit, the other one peeps.” “What do you think the police do, then?” Equal parts unhinged bedroom farce and socially minded policier; both of them compelling enough in a film built of so many jarring staccato rhythms, even if Bozon never shows much interest in their connective tissue.

A.V. Club review. Bozon seems to be into weird for weird's sake; so far I'm not on board, though Huppert is a lot of fun here.
This is the kind of film that you can love or hate, depending on if you like being destabilized or not. I had a good time watching this film, there are some funny, absurd moments and it's very original.
Tip Top is a comedy, a quite disturbing comedy, with a cynical, biting tone, and insicive, fast dialogues (it plays a lot with words, and the way they sound), erratic gestures, strange ways of acting.
Isabelle Huppert and Sandrine Kiberlain are two female cops who investigate the death of an Algerian informer in the police force. Esther (Isabelle Huppert), attacks or "bites", disturbs, agitates, she's sharp, energic, aggressive, cold and acerb and very maniac with the protocol, she has also an…
