ok this movie kind of sucks but the portrayal of rimbaud as a whiny bastard twink is pretty accurate so.
I really did not expect this movie to be anything but the messy bitch that it is and I was not disappointed!! thank you agnieszka holland!! both for maintaining your reputation of having multiple shots of exposed dicks in all of your films, AND for making this movie for me and my fellow messy bitches ONLY.
I found this an unusually annoying, then difficult, then annoying again film. First off, for me, this was a movie of thirds: the first third, I hated it. I thought the two protagonists were pompous fools, and did not understand the importance of their story. In the second third, somewhere shortly around the halfway mark I would guess, I began to feel an impending sense that I wouldn’t be able to dismiss the film so easily. Perhaps the story did have something to say. However, I was still fully prepared to give the film a harshly negative review, shamelessly. By the end of the film, however, I realized that was no longer an option. Besides the fact that it is…
David Thewlis' lips were really wet throughout the whole movie and I couldn't focus on anything except the smacking and spitty noises he made when he spoke.
It should have been more unhinged in its form! It doesn't make much sense to give Verlaine and Rimbaud a conventional period piece treatment (I'm saying this as someone who loves period pieces and often finds them subversive). The structure itself seems at odds with the story. There are some exquisite scenes, but overall, it takes the drama of it all too seriously and consequently fails to make something touching or memorable.
Leo is the perfect Rimbaud though. I can't stress that enough. I think he was born to play him. And if I didn't have such a strong attachment to Titanic, I would call this his best performance.
while i was watching this film i learned how to wiggle my ears so do with that information what you will
i feel like i’m one of the 5 people that rewatched this but this is genuinely my favourite bad movie because whenever you think it couldn’t get crazier it just does
i don't know if i've ever had more fun watching this, please watch it with a friend too you will not regret it.
o leonardo dicaprio e o david thewlis como um casal foi a coisa mais aleatória e perturbadora que eu já vi na vida
this movie is probably one of the worst i’ve seen it’s traumatizing tbh
although points for leonardo dicaprio
literally what the hell even is this also i should not have been watching this at 15
first of all i can put up with the constant bare butt, but the front was uncalled for leonardo. anyways isnt he supposed to be french or english is this satire like it seems too serious for the other actors to be satire? also i thought The Beach was a joke, but this, this is something different,
LOOLOL WHAT I WROTE THIS BEFORE THEY RANDOMLY CHOPPED OFF HIS LEG IM GONNA LOSE MY MIND
