this is so underrated!!!!!! kinda gave me american honey vibes i really really loved it!!!! it’s so well shot and callum and grace have such great chemistry ahh so glad i stumbled upon it!!!!!!
80 minutes, light and sweet, and very, very fun. In all honestly, I didn't even plan on watching this -- I just hovered over the poster on Netflix for too long and it started to play. I was going to go back, but the first few shots compelled me to stay. The energy of Tramps is brilliant, and each colorful frame makes the delightful story feel even more alive. These aren't characters we haven't seen before, but their familiar youthfulness and naivety is a comfort. In a sense, we know where this is going from the start, but the little twists and turns along the way make up forget. Even with your eyes closed, the fast tempo of the music…
my favorite genre of film is two people bumming around new york so this was guaranteed to work on me on at least some level. it also helps that I'm a slut for a good 1.66 aspect ratio, so Adam Leon was really aiming for that target Sadie demographic with this one. in the end, it's charming, fun, easy going. it never pretends to have stakes, even with a plot that involves hustling, underground dealing, and a hunt for a missing briefcase. if you're looking for a nice lil indie to watch on a breezy sunday, this is the one for you.
Trade-out ruined, runaway engaged. The Guy and The Girl and The Purse, the scheme botched as two tramps amble through the thickly stuffed avenues, continuously moving cars and skipping, jogging, trampling New York floods of average Joe and regular Jane. Hearts touching beneath swirling circus sparkles and cozy cafes, flushed with a warm and intimate glow, uneasy partners escalating to two halves of a whole slowly reattaching. Feelings intensifying from lukewarm to blistering, beautiful scorch. Two rambling vagabonds, falling in rapture in the cold grime city.
It fell apart in the 2nd half but I still really enjoyed this.
It was a low-key, entertaining romp through New York with two interesting characters. There's nothing in this movie that we haven't seen before, but shit how many ideas haven't already been done?
Callum Turner was really great and I was compelled by his character for the most part. I loved the filmmaking style and there were some really cute moments.
There are just a few things that the characters did that made me struggle to empathize with them, which made the 2nd half a bit more difficult to enjoy.
That being said this was a pretty solid indie, with a genuinely fantastic opening act.
Good job Netflix, you put out a film that wasn't cancer.
"Don't worry about it he's driving a fucking SUV"
"What does that mean?"
"It means he's an asshole"
YES! Most convincing chemistry between two leads I've seen in ages, a very fast moving plot and some better rounded-out support away from being something I'd heavily recommend for an easy watch. I'm yet to be convinced that Grace Van Patten and Shailene Woodley are not at least sisters either. Clones.
Boy meets girl, they go on an adventure and fall in love. Pretty much the plot of most movies since movies began, but this one seems real, and you get to see NYC on the ground, unlike most movies that only show the touristy highlights. Sweet chemistry between the two leads.
Why is this is so criminally underrated????
This movie might deflate with excess praise, but it is so utterly charming. See it. And Leon's "Gimme the Loot," too. Sweet urban caper films. Irresistible.
A 2017 film you catch watch right now on Netflix streaming.
Adam Leon's found his little corner of cinema and he doesn't seem to have much of an urge to leave that corner and that's fine with me. Like Gimme the Loot, this is a sweet, breezy story about beautiful kids wandering around NYC and committing extremely petty crimes, and like Gimme the Loot it seems to delight in nothing more than its own intangibility, as if Leon is trying to see just how little a plot can be sustained on pure charm. And like Gimme the Loot, it's super fucking great y'all.
I don’t normally care about plot holes, nor do I ever even mention them, but there’s a few in here that kinda compromise the entire film. I’m genuinely confused how these issues were not addressed while writing the film. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the issue comes into play with the premise itself and in particular the briefcase they must find/return.
All that aside, I actually really enjoyed this film and the chemistry between the two leads was pretty good...despite the acting being iffy in a couple moments.
I was going to give this a 3.5, but my issue with the plot holes (and also the fact that there were times were coincidences carried the story) made me bring it down to a 3.
I did like it though, and I would recommend.
Fucking adorable. An unassuming, breezy, laugh-a-minute adventure that gently gives way to old fashioned romance. Totally snuck up on me. There's nothing remarkable about the way it begins yet before you know it you're fully invested in this hapless duo and their intertwining fates. Callum Turner & Grace Van Patten exude a natural, easygoing chemistry most studio-backed rom/com leads would die for. They sell a love story with a look.
It's a little slight, but given the limited resources on hand I'd call this a hugely successful feat of indie filmmaking from Adam Leon. 'Boy meets girl for the millennial era' sounds obnoxious as hell, so it's to everyone involved's credit they make it so damn likeable. Thank fuck for this poster because without it I probably never would've given this a shot. Hey, movie marketing does work! Bright colours are cooool!

good go-to Netflix film to cheer you up in lockdown
It's a start
I'll take a start
...yeah, me too
it's cute!! it's like a tiny little lemon wafer of a movie!!
a teen movie and I liked it
Unexpectedly rather enjoyable. Cute crime movie/romcom that manages to keep you engaged in its simple but interesting plot while enjoying seeing our lead characters interact.
The lead actors do a fine job and the result is a chemistry that makes the film most intriguing. It’s very well shot with captivating colourful frames and the music works perfectly. Also has a few moments of intensity, so although the stakes don’t feel so high it has some thrilling moments that help it define itself in the crime genre along with romance.
A very short movie, but a sweet one!
🚨 HIDDEN GEM KLAXXXXONNNNN 🚨
this was a nice film but i spent the entire time deliberating whether i'd let callum turner nut in me and i've come to the conclusion that, unsurprisingly, yes i would
love the cinematography but cliche story
Gimme the Loot was lent specificity by its authentic location shooting and the intuitive, personable lead performances, but that only partially elevated a rather cute, inconsequential mumblecore screenplay. this time the same disguise wears thin, perhaps because the whiter milieu and romance are a lot more familiar. there's a point when it asks you to doubt the integrity of one of the protagonists, and it doesn't work because you know the movie's too nice to really trip you up that way.
Plot wise, this isn’t anything special. Seen it hundreds of times before &, arguably, much better.
What this does almost immaculately, is everything else. The dual leads, the long takes, every turn of the camera, that score, gah that SCORE!
