A fascinating subject given (unfortunately) fairly poor treatment.
Regardless of whether or not I agree with the transhumanist movement, I find it fascinating to learn about. So in terms of subject matter this was a promising documentary for me.
We mostly follow Ray Kurzweil around the globe talking at various conferences, or as a talking head accompanied by very tacky graphics essentially presenting bite-sized simplifications of his core ideas.
Along the way we meet a few others who take a more pessimistic view of the singularity or outright reject the possibility of AI ever surpassing human intelligence. These segments offer a nice counterpoint to Ray's predictions.
However, this is a relatively superficial examination of the future of technology and given the weight of the topics on offer here could've been probed much further. Especially disappointing was the lack of consideration of the philosophcal implications of the ideas discussed.
