Robert is a SF writer, who realizes that he can make his thoughts material. Because of that, a group of aliens arrives to Earth. Their leader is Andra, who shows affection for Robert, which does not please his girlfriend, Biba. A monster, Mumu, has arrived together with the visitors from space.

Visitors from the (Arkana) Galaxy is a wildly imaginative and playful tale about a science-fiction author who discovers that he can make his thoughts materialize, merely by thinking it. Crazy hijinks ensue when the alien beings from his new novel come to life and wreak havoc to his world.
This is quite a wonderful little movie. It doesn't feel like most other Czech(oslovak) science-fiction movies I have seen at all; it's a lot less formal and more lighthearted. At times it almost feels like this is catered towards children, but then again, the movie also contains some nudity (nothing sleazy however), so maybe not.
I really don't know what I should include on my "ten favourite first-watches of 2020"- list anymore, when I am still discovering such great movies this late in the game.
Visitors is a serious contender though; I absolutely loved it.

Oh wow. Oh man. Oh wow. I dunno wtf I just watched but I'm issuing a HIDDEN GEM ALERT! Let's start with this guy, a grown ass bearded sci fi writer who for some reason wears a space helmet like little Billy playing aliens in the backyard while he dictates into a chunky 1981 tape recorder. SOLD! Okay, then it gets a little slow with relationship stuff but TRUST ME, the last 30 minutes of this movie is 5 stars!!

Utterly baffling ordeal about a frustrated writer who apparently materializes space aliens from his imagination who then go on to do things like cook him a steak, clean his apartment, shoot laserbeams at marauding tourists, and brutally murder everyone at a dinner party.
- There sure was some crazy sci-fi cinema being produced on the other side of the iron curtain.
- Visitors from the Galaxy is best described as a sort of disturbing, cosmic farce that at times resembles a kids TV movie, but with multiple decapitations, mass nudity, a man with lactating breasts and misbehaving alien children with laser shooting eyes.
- It also features an awesome monster, trippy visuals and a foxy extra-terrestrial/robot hybrid matriarch. A fantastic obscurity.
Robert sits at home with his space helmet, dictating drafts for his new sci-fi novel. His girlfriend, family and neighbours are of annoyance to him, and his frustration over his home life soon manifest itself in his imagination. An imagination that becomes a little bit too real for his liking.
Living with a hard-to-please-when-it-come-to-movies serb, I'm always on the lookout for some good old Yugoslavian flicks that we can watch together. In this case, it became a family thing, with me as the only one not really understanding everything that was being said (both my boyfriend and son speak Serbo-Croatian fluently). Lucky for me, they could translate some things. But more importantly; Visitors from the Galaxy is mainly a movie…

With its cast of quirky characters, milquetoast protagonist, and fabricated fairy tale lore, this bit of Yugoslav-Czechoslovak weirdness most reminded me of Lady in the Water. There are traces of Village of the Damned and Mac and Me (which it predates) as well, among others. Coincidentally(?), this came out the same year as Heartbeeps. Must’ve been something in the atmosphere.

A sci-fi writer conjures his characters into existence. An android space woman, her two bratty kids, and an ugly action figure that grows into a monster and massacres everyone at a dinner party. Absolutely bizarre at every turn, but played so straight it’s almost boring a lot of the time. Visually, it’s fantastic, though. I love the look of the android, and the glowing space orb she travels around in. The highlight is definitely the dinner party scene, with the monster (designed by Jan Svankmajer) creating total chaos. Knocking off heads, crushing faces, and puking slime for like a full 20 minutes.

De l'horreur-sci-fi dément qui n'aurait pas pu venir de quelqu'un d'autre qu'un prolifique auteur de dessins animés (qui profite ici immédiatement des avantages du cinéma en prises de vues réelles en filmant des scènes de nudité à très grande échelle). Contient du fun et l'attaque de monstre la plus rythmiquement off de l'histoire du cinéma.
Living in Austin sometimes means that you can go to two mystery screenings in a week and end up seeing two Yugoslavian Horror movies unexpectedly .
I’m happy I finally got to see this.
A Croatian wannabe science fiction writer dreams up a sexy robot woman and two creepy Space Kids, who come to life and make his life complicated. Things get weirder when a monster shows up and the writers girlfriend gets jealous.
There's a light, comedic tone which clashes with the monster apparently slaughtering a room full of wedding guests. The creature costume defies all explanation and must be seen to be believed, huge and elaborate. There's a scene where people try to greet the aliens and a hundred people wind up naked.
Filmed in some of the same locations as Game of Thrones, specifically the dock in Kings Landing.
Worth checking out if you dig Commie SF!
