  Honestly, I almost wonder what I would've rated this if it had no dialogue, since that's really the only thing holding it back.

  Bathroom humor, ridiculous dialogue and annoying voice-over plague the embarrassingly poor script of this well-animated but cliched, soulless and flat-out boring big-budget dinosaur documentary which aims to be educational and entertaining at the same time but fails miserably at both.

  Talking with Dinosaurs?

  The theatrical version of 'Walking with Dinosaurs' is simply unwatchable. After only ten minutes I wanted to use the mute button. If you thought one voice-over can be distracting when it's all over the place, imagine three or four annoying voices giving you the most unfunny and dumbest lines in movie history. I wouldn't even call it dialogues, since every character is sharing thoughts all the time. And it never stops. It feels like a volcano spitting an endless stream of lava made out of words. Exhausting.

  Half way through I wanted to quit the movie and discovered there was a "Prehistoric Version" available on the DVD. No talking at all, only dinosaur sounds. I switched immediately.…

  Im Reich der Giganten - nicht zu verwechseln mit der gleichnamigen BBC-Dokuserie – erzählt eine kleine, nette Geschichte über den kleinen Dinosaurier Patchi und dessen Erwachsenwerden und vermischt dadurch Elemente einer Dokumentation und einer fiktiven Erzählung.

  Besonders beeindruckend ist die Optik des Films, welche reale Landschaftsaufnahmen nimmt und in diese die computeranimierten Dinosaurier packt und so einige sehr schöne Bilder erzeugt.
  Die Geschichte bleibt dabei sehr flach, setzt viel auf Humor und man merkt deutlich, dass die Narrative erst im Nachhinein hinzugefügt wurde und der Film eigentlich als reine Dokumentation geplant wurde.

  Durch die unterhaltsame Synchro (großer Pluspunkt durch Otto Waalkes als Quasi-Erzähler der Geschichte) macht der Film aber Spaß und bietet ganz nette Dino-Unterhaltung, welche natürlich in keinerlei Belangen an den Doku-Namensvetter heranreicht!

  While I can admit and say this film was my absolute childhood as a kid I just gotta admit that years later I realize now that this movie blows. While even though that this film does have some scientifically accurate dinosaurs, some jokes are funny, the backgrounds are absolute wonderful to look at, and some moments are pretty intense and epic that will not excuse this movie from it's stupid-ass voice acting of making dinosaurs talk and most of it's crappy dumbass poop and snot gags. Seriously though, who seriously thought that making dinosaurs talk in a scientifically accurate film was a good idea? I swear if Aaron Mitchell seen this movie I bet y'all that he would be pissed with this movie for having these incredible animals talk.
