The scene where Anupriya Goenka told Hrithik Roshan that she was willing to elope with him and Tiger Shroff scoffs and says “yeah, get in line”? Yeah, that’s what this movie is really about.
If you're going to rip off MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2, FAST 8, and RETURN OF XANDER CAGE, you might as well deliver amazing action gags and the most homoerotic bromance since 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS...except they mention it a few times here!
There's a slow motion introduction that seemingly features a man jizzing in his pants.
At one point the glowering heroes ride toward each other at full speed on motorcycles, lock arms and sexily spin in a circle.
Cinema is alive and well.
A stylishly executed paisa vasool action entertainer that is more on swag and less on substance, relying heavily on the macho ness and chemistry between Hrithik Roshan - Tiger Shroff to carry it forward. But is it watchable? Definitely yes. The high voltage action stunts, serviceable twists and beautifully shot song sequences work to its favor. A fun passable watch.
so blatantly derivative of literally every major action movie trend that precedes it that it's hard not to believe it's intentional...james bond, mission impossible, michael bay, john woo, on and on and on even down to the extreme shakycam scott adkins dtv outings, this is determined to create a simple framework using reliable methods well tested for maximum pleasure for their stars to kick, sweat, and slo-mo swagger their way through. once i started viewing it as a loving homage-parody it made more sense, i stopped trying to be surprised. though it feels like there are five bad decisions for every good one, this delivers exactly what it advertised - two beautiful men dancing together and fighting each other. so…
A turbocharged Bollywood action movie that brings together James Bond, Mission Impossible, Fast & Furious, and the filmography of John Woo. Wildly homoerotic, full of beautiful locations and ludicrous twists, and with Hong Kong-caliber fight scenes.
Most of the reviews on Letterboxd are pretty tepid. Why? What's not to like?
Sid's presentation of Hrithik always brings fireworks onscreen and surprisingly he made a great actor out of Tiger too, whose last and only superhit was WAR itself (in 2019)! Duo looks great with their almost similar physique and appearances: and in here, most exciting aspect of the screenplay is their respective spy avatars are set to be in contraposition throughout majority of its two hours' runtime and that's enough for a genuine action entertainer to work for most of its target audiences! But for rest of us who prefers an entertaining story over any big budget action spectacles, they will cheer and shout too when this duo will embark into the bike chase and speed up as they start spinning…
Can't remember the last time we got a crazy fun, Bollywood buff-boy fest. 'War' plays out like a 80s-90s Greatest Hits album, taking the silliest, forgotten action and emotional elements of both those eras to give us good ol' fun Bond. There's seriously the coolest score all year, going from operatic to electro synth in seconds.
Siddharth Anand doesn't show any flair (duh) in how he cuts his action scenes. The guy's got awful sense of space and set design, but he styles it up with so much gel, that you can almost taste the protein shake spilling off the screen (4DX cinemas, take note). The hyperactive flow you get here in all the chases and shootouts is something you…
