Assange ended up being all the things he despised. Instead, the credit for this enormous act of (yes) democracy, empathy and bravery goes to Manning.
What comes to my mind is He-man shouting "I have the Power!!!"
Anyways..this was a very interesting doc.
Julian is so calm during the interviews and talking in general I guess. Even when he curses its not emotional or in anger.

there’s this absurd 10 second clip of assange bouncing on a trampoline while taking a phone call that makes this film totally worth it
also really liked the bit at the end where gibney quickly explored if assange has an impregnation fetish lol

Yeah, sure... but how is this documentary relevant?
I don't know whether the two things are connected, but literally the moment that Julian Assange was arrested inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, this popped up on my Netflix queue. Maybe that would be a question for Anonymous or WikiLeaks themselves, who knows, but I bet I'd get a few very interesting conspiracy theories out of it.
To say that this is a controversial subject is an understatement. This documentary from back in 2013 is now severely dated, things have moved on, and very swiftly in recent weeks, but it doesn't make it any less relevant. very informative but even though I know it’s not their fault as manning started transitioning after it was made, it was extremely jarring to watch a documentary which exclusively misgendered and deadnamed chelsea :/
Solid documentary that plays out like a top notch globe trotting cyber thriller. Fascinating stuff with some great direction by Gibney.

what an incredibly balanced and informative documentary about wikileaks. I did not know much about wikileaks but I was obviously interested in their anti-american rhetoric and acts of whistleblowing on the military. it was really nice to see the pitfalls of assange's personality and actions, he's definitely more complicated than I thought. I wasn't expecting a bi man and a trans woman to play such a pivotal role in declassifying intelligence documents.
