Review here. Still sad there's not a part where someone says, "Welcome to the punch!", then punches that person.
This was a bad movie with a good cast, which ended up making it a little below average and very forgettable.
The story follows a cop, who gets shot and the bad criminal guy escapes. Years later the bad guy returns, so now he will try to catch him again but some of the other cops are dirty and the case is harder than anticipated.
The story tried to have twists but it was very predictable and most of it ended up feeling a bit stupid.
James McAvoy and Mark Strong are always good, but their talent felt wasted, since they still weren’t strong enough to save the movie.
The movie didn’t have that much action and even though some of the scenes were cool, they still weren’t anything special.
The very definition of average.

OK
A film with plenty of action, in which just as you think something interesting may be about to happen, the script takes a sharp turn and we're back to 'professional' killers and cops driving badly, being unfunny or indiscriminately firing at and missing everything in their sight.
The solid cast led by James McAvoy and Mark Strong as goody/baddie combo are largely wasted in a decent looking affair that is, in the end, just a sea of ordinariness.
The fact that this thinks it's doing Mann... maybe Danny Boyle was making some points about British filmmakers...
You could be forgiven for thinking that the British film industry is dead. Lets be honest, the last big, successful, good movie, produced and distributed by a British studio was, The Woman in Black. That wonderfully scary and stylish ghost story that heralded the return of Hammer(at least for a time).
There are lets not forget, are a decent number of films made in this country, The Kings Speech, Prometheus, Les Misrables, Skyfall to name but 4. None of these, though are British films. Sure there is British talent involved, but ultimately it's some Cigar chomping, egotistical, dime counting, Hollywood executive that is really pulling the strings.
Our contribution to modern cinema seems to consist of micro budget horror and…
James McAvoy always delivers solid performances, and Mark Strong is really good on this one, but everything else feels just average. Not bad, but not great either. It is a simple story with no real touch of gold or something to elevate it to another ground.

Welcome to the Punch is played about as safe as an action thriller can be. It's predictable and generic, but I think the 2.8 average is somewhat harsh. It boasts a stacked British cast, including James Mcavoy, Mark Strong and David Morrissey, the latter of which really shines at times, and it manages to provide a reasonable dose of entertainment for action fans.
Nothing special, but I've definitely seen worse in this genre.
Protagonists Mark Strong and James McAvoy are two of British cinemas most reliable actors. In a film directed by Eran Creevy, also the man behind the camera on Shifty, this again is a film that flatters to deceive with a stylish look to it but little beneath the surface. An action thriller than opens up the question of whether it is time to arm the British Police Force, this sees political corruption behind a series of deaths.
McAvoy plays a detective shot in the line of duty by a criminal mastermind. As the story fast-forwards several years, McAvoy's Max has struggled with the indignity of not catching the elusive Jacob Sternwood played to perfection by Mark Strong. With his career…
This is an entertaining British action thriller, beautifully shot, stylish and filled with suspense. The film opens just after a bank robbery as Jacob Sternwood (Mark Strong) and his men are making their escape through a deserted Canary Wharf on motorbike, hot in pursuit is dogged cop Max (James McAvoy). Jacob and his men get away, in the process they wound Max, partially crippling him and Jacob disappears off the map.
The meat of the story picks up 3 years later when Jacob, free and clear, living in solitude in Iceland learn's that his son is in danger back in London and must return, risking everything on a mission of vengeance, this gives Max one last chance to catch the…
There’s an abundance of British crime TV series, multiple producing companies pump them out like there’s no tomorrow and by the looks of it even the films have the same flat visual style and stories with corrupt cops over and over.
