I was really into this up until I realized it wasn’t a short film.
All kidding aside, the concept is more captivating than the movie itself. It’s cleanly gluing the Peter Pan story onto the WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE film, but it never really works as an American retelling of the classic tale.
I hate to say it, but aside from the messy narrative, the film’s major drawback is in its characters. The young actors are clearly giving it their all, but I didn’t connect with a single one, and Wendy’s self-serious intensity was particularly grating by the end, and I couldn’t wait for it to be over.
Still, it’s a beautiful film as we should expect from Benh…
