  Wetlands starts off like a Pussy Riot in the best possible way. I was intrigued, I was amused, happy and thought that this was awesome. We need a movie like this. But then it all went down the toilet. Literally.

  I feared that this was going to be a case of "Fuck the pain away", and it saddens me that I was right. I get a little bit angry even. Why did she have to be so damaged? What's with the guy with the guitar? Why did we get a "kiss in the rain scene?". Why did it go all rom-com on us?

  There are things that I appreciated with this disappointment of a film though. I loved the first half hour or so, the performances from the actors were great, and I loved how uninhibited it was with right about everything. But in the end it isn't even half as much punk rock as Věra Chytilová's Daisies from 1966.

  In a medium where sounds and visuals are the primary methods of communication, Wetlands is perhaps one of the few movies which could be described as tactile. It's a film you can feel in your skin and it uses that quality to give the viewer pleasure and horror in equal measure. That description makes it sound like one of Cronenberg's body horror films, but at its core Wetlands is just the very frank story of one teenage girl dealing with an anal fissure while coming to terms with the divorce of her parents.

  i used to love pizza. the crispy thin crust or the buttery, doughy deep dish crust, the zesty tomato sauce, the golden, melted cheese, the near limitless possibilities of toppings. goodbye old friend.

  it's just fucking great ok. even in its over the top depiction of just how gross girls can be, its still more realistic than basically any other portrayal i've seen in cinema~

  Another Sundance, another coming-of-age comedy about a teenage German girl who’s obsessed with her hemorrhoids.

  It’s a premise as old as Robert Redford himself, that comfortably familiar story that moviegoers can trace beat by beat: Act 1 – introduce the pathologically plucky heroine (Carla Juri as Helen), a child of divorce so fixated on her bodily fluids that she takes a greater clinical interest in the consistency of her vaginal mucus than she does in the boy inspiring it from her. The inciting incident, of course, transpires when the girl opens a bloody anal fissure while shaving… as anyone who has ever seen a movie before has no doubt already guessed. Act 2 – the protagonist lies in her hospital…
