WATCHED AS PART OF MY UNSEEN 80S PROJECT
I was in the mood for a disaster movie, preferably one I hadn't seen before and lo and behold, here is one released in 1980.
I made a terrible mistake. This is such a dull mess, nothing really happens for about 50 minutes. Now, this can be good for these kinds of movies if they are setting up interesting characters that you care about if they kick the bucket. Sadly, not the case here. The stunt-work is good but not as good as The Towering Inferno or The Poseidon Adventure. That tightrope scene, though, is almost as good as anything from those films. It's a shame the rest of the film doesn't match it. And there is an older couple so you pretty much now what is going to happen there....
Paul Newman is still the man, though.
