I won't lie that teenage me had a massive crush on Drew Barrymore. (Adult me is a proper reviewer and completely immune to such dubious favouritism, hem hem) When her directorial debut came out in the UK, a story of unsuccessful beauty pageant contestant Bliss Cavendar finding personal epiphanies in the proudly unpretty world of roller derby, I listed it as one of my favourite films of the year. Afterwards I came to wonder if I'd overrated it.
Watching it again? I think I'd underrated it.
