i’d love to know:
1) how this got greenlit
2) how did liv tyler read the script and think it was good enough to produce
3) how this got distribution
4) why this exists
5) how i can get two hours of my life back
are you/were you a twink on broadway from the years c. 2011-2015? preferably in the cast of NEWSIES? well i want to watch YOUR shitty movies! i don’t care if you have three lines or (more likely) zero! i don’t care if you’re only doing this because you wanted to leave your show before it closed, or if you just wanted to get out of new york.
after all, isn’t this why you went to juilliard? to do small indies and send me rummaging through my playbill binder to see your blurry little headshot in a beat up program from matilda the musical*? to do small indies that i will ignore as i browse the broadwayworld message boards?
so send me your terrible garbage movies! i want to relive my teenage years
*obviously a program i purchased for $2 at the broadway flea market. i’ve never seen matilda i was team kinky boots
Right we know the premise we seen it all before, girl doesn’t eat meat, girl eats meat, girl hits puberty, girl turns into wild animal 🙄 its nothing new and Raw did it way better last year, heck Ginger snaps did it way better nearly 20 years ago.
Its the directors first feature so I’ll give him some slack but i just think he took on way too much and didn’t now whether he wanted a teenage werewolf movie a coming of age one or a shoppy Twilight esque film, there are a couple of good scenes once she turns into the “wildling” but that’s it,and i really wanted to like this as Brad Dourif give an alright performance, well he never gives us bad ones…
i guess former cast members of newsies the broadway musical gotta pay the bills somehow
Seemed like Room with a twinge of horror. Starts strong but grows weaker as it progresses. Still, it held my attention because I was already invested in the story.
Bonus points for casting Brad Dourif, who never fails to deliver.

Wildling had real potential, but in my opinion fails because the filmmakers obviously can't decide in the first half what exactly they want to tell, and after they have finally decided where the story is going, it fails because of the execution.
I would have liked a supernatural "Room", as implied in the first 10 minutes, but then there are components from various werewolf movies, the excellent French movie "Raw" and the Swedish "Let The Right One In". And as confusing as this mixture sounds, the rest of the plot is unfortunately.
That's a pity because the actors are really phenomenal. Bel Powley, unknown to me until now, is a very peculiar person, who fits perfectly…
Do you want to hear a story about the Wildling?
There is something here to like if you can get past some incredibly stupid moments in the plot and script. I really enjoyed Bel Powley as Anna, she made me want to like this film more than I actually did and it's always great to see Brad Dourif. He plays Daddy and his relationship with Anna was the fuel that could have made this film work.
Unfortunately every time I forced myself to suspend disbelief at something incredibly moronic something else would pop right up. What annoyed me is that most of the problems with the plot and script could have been easily fixed but they just went ahead…
Ginger Snaps if it was written and directed by a dude who has no idea how teen girls speak or how most humans behave in general. Brad Dourif goes all in with his crazy old man performance, though.
At one point in this Liv Tyler says to another character "that's fucked up" and well, it's pretty much what i could say and think about this little movie too.
The central idea is genius, i love psychological movies that are involved in a certain way in a supernatural and fictional plot. but after one point for me, it was as if the director had forgotten what kind of story he was presenting. there are at least 3 plots here : a coming of age, a monster trillher and a captivity / hostage movie. none of these three aspects fits in the course of the acts. i thought Bel Powley was really good in this but i wish the aproach…
Fritz Böhm's "Wildling" is a horror film whose potential is wasted thanks to a narrative that does not seem to know what to do with its core concept, or, perhaps, a narrative that is more concerned with obscuring that core with the trappings of another story altogether. Regardless, the tale of a young woman raised in relative captivity is mildly compelling; and the production makes the most of its small-scale nature. It all builds to something interesting, but, when it does, it is too late to make a difference.
This started out interesting enough and the actress playing the wildling was well cast and carried most of the movie for me...even Liv Tyler was decent-ish...but then every cliche happened, an unearned love story popped up and went nowhere, and Brad Dourif's character...well let's just say I don't get his character at all. It's like the YA version of better movies. That feels like in runs on way too long.
I wasn't terribly interested in Wildling at first glance. It is far from the first film to do this monstrous allegory for coming of age thing, nor do I expect it to be the last. And while it does put a few unique spins on it, it really fails to break the mold very much, or to even compellingly relate its message as the film kind of devolves into a more basic creature feature by the final act.
This is the directorial debut for Fritz Böhm, who co-wrote the film alongside another newcomer, Florian Eder (whose experience prior to this is predominately as a storyboard artist). Perhaps this played a role in the films immense use of visual effects, one…
The trailer gave half of it away, but the ending surprised me, not gonna lie.
Wiiiiiiiiildling. This movie was awesome. I loved the story and how the twist ties into the very beginning. Anna was super cute, I loved her eyes and anytime she got angry or determined her expressions were so fierce. Powley played the lost girl perfectly, and I liked how she wasn’t completely crazy or illiterate. Her relationships were cool because it was like how animals bond with people, quickly and loyally. Plus, shawty got that cake, she stacked. Liv Tyler is still bae, and goddamn can she rock that police uniform. I love how she was so sweet and protective while also knowing when to be tougher. Also being able to realize that Anna “had it” in that moment and not get…
im literally still watching it but i no longer believe in its capacity to impress me so im rating it now. i like bel powleys performance well enough but GODDDD imagine being a man making a movie about how the real monster is "Girl Puberty" is new
this film is also WEIRD in its insistence about cisnormativity and gender and it's wildly uncomfortable any time it comes up, which i suppose is not shocking since it is as i mentioned about how scary vaginas are
Wasted potential. All the ingredients to make a good movie becomes a Great Value Twilight. Too bad.
why would someone make this. who funded this
Good start, but then it's getting worse
I'm a sucker for werewolves
Oddly paced, but it has some good creature effects.
