Growing up in 1980s NW-Europe, Hollywood was always nearby. Hollywood, that brought us the then-President, indoctrinated us with glamorous, victorious wars. And if it did not, by series like Tour of Duty, it was cleaned up, free of violence, racism and politics. Without sorrow or bloodshed.
The young men testifying in Winter Soldier feel the sorrow and see the bloodshed. Some of them feel betrayed by the lie of war, the justification of their actions. They speak, remember. One man weeps. The enemy were not the Others, but themselves.
A Hollywood movie called Winter Soldier just came out. It's about Captain American's best friend-turned-traitor. A new generation will be prepared to go out.
War is never far away. Because it's us.
