Benedict Cumberbatch is on fire these last two years....well Wreckers was made before his hot streak started. In this one he plays a man that is trying to get his wife pregnant and build his dream house. All is well until his younger brother shows up. Then Benedict's trouble past starts to work its way into his current life. The acting is fine in this one....but the story seems to only hint at what is going on....it was like trying to put together a puzzle without all of the pieces. After awhile....I just put the puzzle away and waited for the movie to be over. The best part of the movie? It is only 82 minutes long.
Film #12 of The December Challenge 2013
D.R. Hood's very special little film Wreckers is one of the more powerful relationship dramas I've seen in quite some time. It tackles both romantic and familial love with empathy and intellect. What starts out as delicate and sweet story of newlywed teachers trying to start a life in the husband's hometown slowly builds to some brilliantly observed conflict. The visuals are at times poetic , but the look of the film is barely notable when there are the incredible performances to consider. Whenever the gorgeous Claire Foy was on screen I couldn't take my eyes off her. She has a completely magnetic presence and her nuanced performance makes this feel more like…
the poster would insinuate some sort of drama/romance film, but actually, this is the most subtly dangerous, unsettling, organically directed, criminally underrated indie film i have ever seen. i highly recommend it, the filmmaking style is inventive and gorgeous, the acting is pure class, and by the end, you still don't know which character this was the villain origin story for.
Unsettling tension hangs in the air of every scene, acting as a main character throughout the film. Great performances by Claire Foy, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Shaun Evans. It is left to the audience to decide for themselves what happened and with such complex character archetypes, where no character is wholly good or bad, it leaves a lot of interpretation for the viewer. The relationship between the two brothers is the driving force of the film and was beautifully portrayed.
why does benedict cumberbatch feel the need to make me feel sad for every single of of his characters 🧍🏻♀️
The cast and their performance is incredible. The movie... isn't bad but it's confusing, hard to understand what's happening because there's no past explained. However, I loved the sounds of the film, the simplicity, the real and raw human behavior/connection.
