this movie is so fucking bad but when i tell you
i love it bcuz it prompted my friends and i to start a dance crew called “DSBR: down south body rockerz” where we battled other crews at parties, quinceaneras, sweet 16s. etc. I WISH I WAS FUCKING LYING OMG. good fucking times.
plus this early 2000s era was peak hip-hop.
It's dancing, in a bizarro universe where dancing and basketball are all that happens in your day, while your mom Jackée works 16 jobs and can't actually appear in the movie because you make her work all the time to support your dancing and your sportballing, you insensitive jerks. That's your mom. Be nice to your mom Jackée.
You Got Served is DUMB. Its worst qualities are it’s laughably forced plot devices and unnecessarily quick and unfocused editing. When the person I’m watching with, whose not interested in filmmaking, gets weirded out by how jarring the cutting in dialogue scenes are, it’s a problem. With that said, this movie is so fun for me. The early 2000’s hip hop dancing, music, fashion. Also, nostalgia. Watched it a million times as a kid. I see how it completely engaged me back then, because it’s DUMB.
Has this movie aged well? No. Will I listen to what snobby yt film ppl on here that only rate A24 films with 4-5 star ratings have to say about it? No. Well then

Man... most of these kids really can't act but atleast some of them really CAN dance. Eh but you aren't looking for great acting in a movie like this anyway, you are looking for people getting served. It does a decent job of serving people.
