Most of the time, a simple and clear premise is the basic foundation for a good movie. This film had that. What surprised me was just how unfocused it became and how quickly it happened.
A tale that might be about love or forbidden love or hesitation or obsession or loneliness or maybe none of those things. I think it wants to be that, but it just doesn't work.
The one thing that really does work is the way the film shifts your perspective. Most of the film is dominated by monstrous behavior, but somewhere along the line, we begin to change focus so that the same behavior paints a totally different portrait of just who the monster is. That was clever.
It was too good for this move, really.
