Doing my best to complete the Sergio Martino filmography. Finally watched my Arrow Films Blu-ray of this title. One of his best imho.

And for fans of Edwige Fenech... this is a must-see. She photographs beautifully and has some great scenes. (I love that Eli Roth put her in Hostel: Part II.) She gets top billing, although she doesn't appear until 32 minutes into the film. Perhaps because she was married to producer/writer Luciano Martino (Sergio's brother).
Beautifully shot by Giancarlo Ferrando. Ferrando is a strange one... he was so talented yet never was tapped for many productions outside of genre. IMDB lists his most successful film as being Troll 2.
Murder, hippie sex parties, humiliation, crumbling mansions, an eternally scummy Luigi Pistilli, a black cat named Satan, eye trauma... Half Giallo/Half Poe/All sleaze. This Italian Poe-nography jam from Sergio Martino concocts a scuzzy, violent and thoroughly nasty picture that isn’t afraid to mix in some gothic flourishes into the black gloved killer narrative.
Packed to the gills with genre heavyweights (Edwige Fenech, Anita Strindberg, Luigi Pistilli, and Ivan Rassimov) and sporting the usual highly stylized italio cinematography, Your Vice looks wonderful, showcasing its rather lurid acts of violence with a keen eye that isn’t afraid to turn away—sewn together with another stellar score from Bruno Nicolai that perfectly weaves in and out of Martino’s psychosexual murder jam.

Can we take a moment and appreciate the brilliance of all gialli titles? Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key is no different. It is a psychological mind game between husband and wife who are both low-key mentally crazy and play a cat-and-mouse game of nerves, wagering who will murder the other one first. The 'inside-the-mind' nature of the title is therefore brilliantly fitting.
Martino's gialli are usually inward-focused with personal murders where the killer's motive is a psychological one and he/she is in an intimate relationship with the victim. Here, Martino sets his scenes inside a gothic mansion of narrow hallways and claustrophobic spaces, whose undiscovered dark corners reflect the sense of distrust…
Finally! A movie that asks, what if a slasher film was also an incestuous soap opera?
Insanity. Melodramatic, erotic, flair-heavy insanity. Giallo films often include twists upon twists, but rarely do they ever include twists upon twists UPON TWISTS! A pseudo-adaption of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Black Cat”, Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (the GOAT of absurd giallo titles) is yet another Sergio Martino production featuring Edwige Fenech, this time in a murder mystery that sees a sleazy trash bag author (played to an almost too believable degree by Luigi Pistilli), his wife (the queen of the hour here, Anita Strindberg), and his niece (Fenech) all wrapped up in some kind of plot…

To be honest this movie teetered between boring and entertaining most of the movie! It was directed by the legendary Sergio Martino in which I like several of his movies! Before the ending I thought it was about 2.5 and some of the movie is boring. The ending was cool and it saved the movie! I did like the movie overall but I wouldn’t watch it again because of the boring parts. Some may love it but I wouldn’t recommend it though in the end I was entertained! This is why I didn’t click like!
Another Sergio Martino sleazefest done with a style and skill that only Argento could top. This one's a bit of a trick because the giallo element only goes about halfway before Martino breaks this movie wide open into something out of Edgar Allan Poe and even Hitchcock. It's totally unexpected and keeps you guessing at what the hell he's going to show you next. Edwige Fenech plays a stronger character than she usually does and that's half the fun of the movie. Definitely one of Martino's best, if not the best of his career.

There is an astonishing amount of narrative overlap between Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key and A White Dress for Marialé, also made in 1972. In both films, Luigi Pistilli plays a wealthy, controlling, abusive husband to a miserable, nearly broken wife played by a genre regular (there Ida Galli, here Anita Strindberg), around whom unexplained deaths begin to occur. In addition, Ivan Rassimov plays a possible alternative for both victimized wives, and the grand homes owned by Pistilli's characters both play host to bizarre, debauched parties that go unpleasant directions.

This film is every bit as bold as its title! Sergio Martino's film takes a basic Giallo plot and laces it with shades of Sigmund Freud and Edgar Allen Poe; the result is an erotic fever dream with mystery at every turn. The plot is devilishly clever in the way that it's laid out; twisting and turning in every direction and always ready to pull the rug out from under you. Luigi PistillI and Anita Strindberg are great in the lead roles and receive support from Edwige Fenech, in what is surely her sexiest ever performance. An out and out classic of Italian cinema!

Well, that was fun. A decaying mansion, despicable people, a cat named Satan, stylish camera work, alluring women, dubbing that veers dangerously close to old kung fu movies at times, J&B around every corner, and more twists than the tangled web of cables behind my television. What's not to love?
I was solidly reminded of Roger Corman's Poe Cycle jams, which is an epic check in the pros column for this one, seeing as how I love those. Although, there was a lamentable Vincent Price deficiency. Nothing I can't cope with, however. The presence of Edwige Fenech goes a long way towards alleviating this particular shortcoming. This is only my second Martino, but I'm starting to see the appeal.
