I remember my father asking if I wanted him to take me to see this or Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.
A friend's mother said Spider-Man 2 was 'scary'.
But I also heard if you saw Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie on opening weekend, you would get a free exclusive Yu-Gi-Oh card upon entry. Young Adrian did the math—that would mean I'd get two exclusive cards since my father would be watching as well.
So I dragged him to watch this shit.
Only now do I realize he wouldn’t have understood what was going on; it's based on a fucking card game. A card game with rules you would have no understanding of unless you've:
1. watched the show
2. played the game yourself

The best part of this movie is when Kaiba hops into a Blue Eyes White Dragon shaped jet and flies away while Sonic-tier butt rock plays in the background
Ain't got shit on the tv show, but the nostalgia is very strong with it.

The greatest movie ever fucking made, if you can't recognize the genuis behind this then go fuck yourself.
I saw this in theatres when I was a child, and of course I got the cards. I loved Yu-Gi-Oh so much, and I consistently played it for 12 years of my life. Even at this point, with all the stupid brokenness of the actual card game, I still love the original series and GX.
All of the Yu-Gi-Oh movies I have seen have been a blast. This doesn't hold a candle in comparison to the one released a few years ago, but it is fun in its own way. Inspired more by Hellraiser II than I would've expected. Achieves some really sublime early-2000s American anime camp, but good god there's so much information at any given moment that the whole thing feels three hours long. Probably one of the funniest movies I've ever seen for the first thirty minutes and then like blasting an exposition firehose directly into my cerebral cortex for the remaining one-hundred and forty. Got scared of looking at my phone for more than five seconds for fear of missing eight discrete pieces of information. Seto Kaiba is one of the characters of all time.
