Tathastu starts off with a recap of moments from Zakir's life. Starting from his early school days, the performance is a ride where the audience gets a peek at the family he was born in, the characters he grew closest to and his young years bloated with aspirations of becoming an RJ. He goes onto share a few personal learnings on stage as he tries to make sense of his journey thus far.

My favourite thing is how the Urdu part of the title of the show reads: Toh Ho Jaaye. That’s the essence of the show right there.
Yeah I know I said I won't rate anything, but this is a fucking masterpiece and 5 stars is just way too low for this...wanna rate this a million stars because Zakir Khan is the BEST Indian comedian/storyteller of all time.

This was reminisce of how much we missed watching Zakir's stand up comedy! I just wish the lighting and set designs were just as smooth as Zakir's skit!

Fincher would've committed a massacre if he were to witness the lack of smoothness in the operation of cameras. And given the style of set decoration, a more interesting lighting would've added chaar chaand to the special. The flat lighting took away half the vibe they were aiming for.
BUT,
the writing stands for itself, and covers up for everything else. the subtle class disparity observations are just 🤌
And it lands such a visceral gut punch in the ending, it makes you realise even humour could be a way of processing loss and despair. Then you remember humour has always been that: a way to process loss and despair without succumbing to loss and despair.

never cried and laughed so much altogether in a span of 20 minutes
Full of Heart: I have never cried watching a stand up, except this time. An emotional roller coaster. Fantastic storytelling using the medium of stand up comedy. After the first few minutes I was hooked. I laughed, I laughed more and then the unexpected happened. Tears rolled down my cheeks. And in the end he explained Tathastu, which put a smile across my faces. Truly exceptional.
