Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 2022
Between the Marvel references and the Raimi callbacks (and at least one instance that’s both) this may be more fan service than Endgame. For the most part though, it feels less forced and rarely gets in the way of the fun comic horror at the center of everything.
Maybe eventually one of these movies will actually give Michael Stuhlbarg something interesting to do.

Lingua Franca 2019
A beautifully shot film about being in a precarious situation with little control. Conveys the consistent low-level dread that things could go wrong at any time while acknowledging that work, fun, community, family, romance, etc. don’t stop because of it. Olivia is working to improve her situation and is aware of potential dangers, but she doesn’t stop living.

Everything Everywhere All at Once 2022
I’m the kind of nerd who wants to rewatch this to track the changing aspect ratios, but would probably get distracted by all the other visual inventiveness. I left the theater feeling joyful in a way I haven’t in a while.
