Tyler Moore’s review published on Letterboxd:
The first half or so is incredibly poorly edited & a little uninteresting, but over time the film builds up to being what I really wanted from this film. Ben Affleck is amazing as Batman, Gal Gadot steals the scenes she's in, Jesse Eisenberg is great as Lex, Henry Cavill is good as Superman (nothing too noteworthy), and the rest of the performances make good additions to the film as well. The shots are beautiful, the score is mesmerizing, the action is incredible, & the visual effects are great. So basically, as always, the style in this Zack Snyder film is beyond noteworthy. Snyder even did a really good job directing the film. The only problem here is the terrible editing in the first half. The plot was such a mess & ill-focused that you didn't feel the majority of the emotional beats & there was a lack of investment in the characters. Don't get me wrong, the film really does strengthen in the second half, but the first half was a let down. Batman v Superman also isn't afraid to pull punches, with a shocking ending & Batman is a killer too (That didn't bother me with Superman, but I absolutely hated it with Batman as it takes away a key element of his character). Overall, Batman v Superman has a beautiful style to it & the story is fine in the first half & great in the second half, but the editing is so poor in the first half I can't believe Snyder approved it. This film isn't The Dark Knight, but it's CERTAINLY not near Batman & Robin. I can see why reviews would be lowered for lots of critics, but they're blowing it way out of proportion.
But seriously, get rid of the editor for future DCEU films & we'll be fine.
